What makes
a great DVD copying solution?
Below we highlighted the attributes that we at DVD copy software review consider to be the most important when purchasing DVD copying software.
Ease of Use – How is the software to use? Are there many steps in order to accomplish your goal? Is the process intuitive, even for the novice user?
Quality of the DVD Copy – Is the quality of the copy exactly the same as the original? Are there skips or flaws in the audio or video?
Compression –When you force a DVD-9 disc (7-9 GB disc) to fit on a single 4.5 GB DVD-R, the video or audio is being compressed somehow. Good applications are able to accomplish this so the naked eye isn't able to tell any difference from the original. Depending on how big the original is and your individual settings, the level of compression may vary and you may see slight areas of pixilation especially in dark areas.
CSS Decryption –Most DVD movies today are encrypted with the Content Scrambling System (CSS) in order to prevent DVD Duplication. The ideal DVD copying solution will have a CSS decryptor built in the software so there is only one step to copying a DVD. However, some solutions provide links to an external decrypting utility instead which you will have to download. In these cases, the process of finding a decryptor should be easy and fast and it should work seamlessly with the software.
Feature Set –Does the software offer a variety of features to accommodate different types of DVDs? Are there different methods of compression and copying? Are there extra features like DVD game copying or DVD restoration?
Ease of Installation and Setup –How easy is it to install the software? Are there multiple applications that are required in order to complete the DVD copy? How easy is it to go from installation to a finished DVD copy?
Help Documentation –Is there a help document available? How useful is it? Is it easily understood without relying on technical jargon? Can you find your answers easily?
Hardware Compatibility –What hardware is required in order to use the software? Many types of DVD copying software are specifically made for DVD burners; others require a CD burner in combination with a DVD-ROM drive. Using a DVD burner in order to make a copy usually produces the best results. Is the software compatible with a wide variety of DVD burners? |
